On the Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation unit, we provide acute rehabilitation services for patients with impairments caused by illness, surgery, and/or injury. The goal of the Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation program is to help patients develop the skills necessary to live as independently as possible upon discharge. Our interdisciplinary team develops an individualized rehabilitation program to address the patient's deficits. Potential candidates for LMH's Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation services are patients who have difficulty with one or more of the following functions:
Transferring from one surface to another
Walking/negotiating steps
General mobility
Balance or coordination
Daily activities, such as eating, grooming, bathing, dressing, homemaking
Swallowing
Speech/language
Memory or judgment
Service Information
To qualify for Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation services at LMH, patients must be able to tolerate at least three hours of therapy a day for five days a week. Patients must also have the ability to achieve rehabilitation goals in a reasonable time period. Patients may be referred to Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation by their physicians, social workers, family members, insurance representatives, case managers, or themselves.

Inpatient rehabilitation service
A doctor may ask a therapist from physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy to come to a patient’s Hospital room and begin treatment right at the bedside. Types of services that rehabilitation therapists provide right in the Hospital include:
Instruction and practice on safe transfer in and out of bed, a chair or wheelchair
Proper fit and practice on how to correctly use a walker, cane, crutches, or other mobility devices
Identification of assistive devices that will help with activities of daily living
Exercise
Gait (walking) and stair training
Instruction and practice bathing and dressing
Outpatient comprehensive rehabilitation
For patients who need continued therapy after they are dismissed from the Hospital. Our Outpatient Comprehensive Rehabilitation team can offer multiple types of therapy and consists of physical, occupational and speech therapists and social workers.
Physical therapy
Licking Memorial physical therapists create individualized exercise programs, utilize manual therapy and other approaches in order to increase strength and mobility, decrease pain and maximize function. Physical therapy can be used to treat:
Orthopedic injuries
Sport-related injuries
Traumatic injuries
Arthritis
Joint replacement
Deconditioning
Balance impairments
Neurological conditions
Multiple sclerosis
Cerebral palsy
Nerve injuries
Stroke
Post-surgical recovery
Pelvic floor rehabilitation
Amputations
Head injuries
Neck/Back pain
Headaches
Vertigo
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy will help address deficits of motor, sensory, and cognitive skills to maximize independence. It is used to treat ailments such as:
Work-related injuries
Sport-related injuries
Amputations
Neurological conditions
Stroke
Repetitive stress injuries
Epicondylitis
Tendonitis
Fibromyalgia
Developmental disabilities
Sensory processing
Lymphedema
Speech therapy
Speech and language therapy can help those who are experiencing difficulty swallowing as well as those with speech and language impairments. Speech therapy services are available to treat patients with:
Stroke, brain injury, or other illness and injury that impair attention, memory, reasoning, and judgment
Aphasia involving the loss of ability to speak or understand speech
Laryngectomy
Motor speech disorders that make articulation and intelligible speech difficult
Stuttering
Swallowing difficulty
