Addiction Medicine – Inpatient detoxification and outpatient treatment including residential services, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, aftercare, and medication-assisted treatment.

We treat addiction as a chronic, progressive and potentially fatal disease. Differences in body chemistry can cause an inability to successfully metabolize mood-altering substances. Individuals whose body chemistry doesn't allow them to successfully metabolize substances must learn to live a life of total abstinence from mood-altering chemicals. Our treatment team members help patients to recover in a dignified manner using four primary treatment goals:

Education
Self-diagnosis
Self-responsibility
Self-treatment

Successful achievement of these goals culminates in relapse prevention.

Inpatient Psychiatric – Acute crisis intervention with the emphasis on strengthening the individual’s coping skills.

Psychiatric disorders treated include:

Depression
Mood disorders
Anxiety and stress-related conditions
Psychosis
Suicidal thought or behavior

The team of licensed professionals providing care is comprised of:

Psychiatrists

Licensed professional counselors
Occupational therapists
Certified occupational therapist assistants
Registered nurses

Each patient has a complete medical examination at the onset of treatment. The patient’s treatment plan is individualized to meet the patient's specific needs. Family involvement is important. Social services and nursing services are available to meet with family members, treatment may include:

Individual and group therapies
Education in community resources
Communication skills
Stress management
Relaxation techniques
Social skills
Medication

Outpatient Psychiatric Services – Medication management and therapy services. Services are provided to adults ages 18 and over.

Neuromodulation services also are available to patients with depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as alternatives to taking medications. These services include:

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)
- Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation is an FDA-approved non-drug treatment used for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adult patients who have not benefited from medication therapy. TMS is a non-invasive procedure that involves gentle placement of a magnetic coil against the patient’s head. TMS therapy generates a highly concentrated, magnetic field reaching about two to three centimeters into the brain. As TMS magnetic fields move into the brain, very small electrical currents are produced which stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.

Addiction Medicine

W. Andrew Highberger, M.D., received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. He completed post-doctoral studies in general surgery, as well as a residency in anesthesia at The Ohio State University Hospitals in Columbus. Dr. Highberger completed his fellowship in addiction medicine in 2014. He is board certified in anesthesiology and addiction medicine.

Darren L. Burgin, APRN-CNP, received his Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. He is certified as a psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner.

Charles L. Murray Jr., APRN-CNP, received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Ashland University College of Nursing and Health Sciences in Ashland, Ohio, and Master of Science in Nursing degree from Ohio University College of Nursing. He is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Outpatient Psychiatric

Michelle A. Monro, D.O., received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey. She completed a psychiatry residency at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton. She is board certified in psychiatry.

Grant L. Yoder, D.O., received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. He completed a general psychiatry internship and residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Yoder is board certified in psychiatry.

Elizabeth A. Yoder, D.O., received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. She completed a categorical psychiatry internship and a general psychiatry residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Yoder is a board-certified psychiatrist and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Jessica L. Englehart, LPCC-S, A.T.R., R.Y.T., earned her Master of Arts in Counseling and Art Therapy degree from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. She specializes in mindfulness-based stress reduction and is certified in youth development.
