Concussion Screening Eligiblity
Congratulations! Based on your registration selections, you are eligible for concussion screening.
Concussion screening is an optional station for students in contact sports. The students entering grades 7, 9 and 11 next school year, who do not have the testing available at their school, are eligible. The ImPACT concussion screening test is a computerized test that can evaluate coordination, response time, and memory to assess cognitive functions when the brain is uninjured, prior to sports activities. The screening test provides a baseline result for each individual. In the event of a concussion (injury to the brain), a repeat post-concussion test can be compared to the initial baseline study to measure changes in the individual’s brain function. This also assists healthcare professionals to determine the recovery time needed for a student to be safely returned to sports participation. The computer test can take approximately 20 to 30 minutes for completion, depending on the student. The baseline results will be sent to your student’s primary care provider (as listed on registration) for their records, at the end of the screening program. Please check with your student’s coach if you are uncertain if this is something they need to complete, specific to any of the sports they will participate in throughout the year. It is recommended students take this test in a quiet room with no distractions, so they should leave their phones or personal devices with a parent or guardian during the testing.
