Pulmonology is a specialty that focuses on diseases of the lung, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is a chronic, progressive condition associated with cigarette smoking and characterized by coughing, phlegm and shortness of breath. Other diseases of the lung include asthma, chronic cough, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and pneumonia.
Sleep Medicine is a specialty that focuses on disorders of sleep. The main disorder is sleep apnea, which is a condition in which a person’s breathing stops and starts many times during sleep. These interruptions in breathing disturb the four stages of sleep necessary to rejuvenate the body and mind, and cause daytime fatigue, morning headaches and other unpleasant effects. The interruptions in oxygen to the heart and brain can significantly increase a person’s risk of heart disease (particularly coronary artery disease and heart failure), high blood pressure (hypertension) and stroke.
Through the dedication of our staff and the use of the latest technological advances, we are able to provide the highest level of patient care available.
